Gislingham

 

Pictures of buildings mentioned in the “Suffolk” volume of “The Buildings of England” series by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner.


Although I do not normally “do” pictures of the Churches, I often visit them when in the village.  Gislingham has interesting box pews (p230 of pevsner) which are shown here:



The Old Guildhall (p231) is late C15 with changes from early and late C17, early C19 and C20.  Pevsner refers mainly to the interior as “with tie beams on arched braces and carrying kingposts”.  There is more detail on Gildhalls here.



Pevsner also refers similarly to Ivy Farmhouse (p231) “N of the Church ... with  carved gable tie beam”:
