Hawkedon

 

Pictures of buildings mentioned in the “Suffolk” volume of “The Buildings of England” series by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner.


In the second edition (p254/5) we have Hawkedon Hall, Langley’s Farmhouse, Swan Hall and Thurston Hall.  The third edition adds Hawkedon House and gives current names to Langley’s Newhouse, Thurston End Hall and Swan’s Hall.


Only Hawkedon Hall is shown here at present.  Of it, Pevsner said: “s of the church.  C18 front, but inside parts of a kingpost roof and a ceiling with moulded beams, i.e. work of the C15.  In the garden a stump of the former village cross.”  The third edition adds: “C18 plastered front, seven bays wide with pedimented doorcase”.  Here it is:
