Sizewell

Pictures of buildings mentioned in the second edition “Suffolk” volume of “The Buildings of England” series by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner.

Just one entry for Sizewell in the second edition and that in brackets meaning it was not seen personally by Pevsner. It says "Nuclear Power Station, by Sir Frederick Gibberd, 1961-6, for the CEGB. Clad in aluminium. It is the sixth commercial nuclear power station in Britain's first nuclear power programme. A second power station is in 1974 only at plan stage".

This would have been Sizewell A with two Magnox reactors which first generated electricity in 1966 and ceased doing so in 2006. Sizewell B, Britains first and only Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR), with the white dome, first generated electricity in 1995. As with the original entry a new station (Sizewell C) is only at plan stage (2021).
